Dr Walid Abdul-Hamid is a Consultant Psychiatrist in general adult psychiatry at the North Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. He has been in this present clinical post since 2000. Dr Walid Abdul-Hamid has also started a visting consultant post at Priory where he is available for private psychiatric consulatations.
His training in psychiatry followed completion of a doctorate in Community psychiatry at the University College London on the mental health needs of homeless people in inner London. He later trained at the famous Maudsley Hospital and Institute of Psychiatry in London where he completed membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Dr Walid Abdul-Hamid has special interest in trauma psychiatry following research with homeless people in London and later EMDR training and he achieved the position of EMDR Europe Consultant and supervisor. He is also interested in drug treatment resistant depression and psychosis.
Dr Walid Abdul-Hamid has been interested in Cultural and Ethnic Psychiatry related particularly to Arab and Muslim backgrounds for two years and he was an advisor to the cultural consultation service at the centre for psychiatry, Barts and London Medical school where he had an honorary senior lecturer post.
