Dr Skirma completed training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Vilnius University, and continues enhancing knowledge through various courses, trainings and conferences. Skirma completed five years postgraduate training in Group Analysis at Vilnius University in cooperation with Oslo Group Analysis Institute and has an interest in working with groups. Skirma has worked in the UK since 2006 and holds a full time post as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in North East London NHS Foundation Trust. Skirma trained in MBT (Mentalisation Based Therapy) approach for working with adolescents and families.
Special interests include attachment difficulties/disorders and Neurodevelopmental disorders, including ADHD and ASD. Skirma is passionate about early intervention and preventative work with the parents and firmly believes that the child/adolescent cannot be seen and assessed without his/her family’s or wider social context.
Skirma is actively involved in training of junior doctors and qualified psychotherapist and can offer assessment and psychopharmacological treatment (if appropriate) for behavioural, emotional, social or mental health difficulties in childhood and adolescence along with the therapeutic interventions for a child and parents who are struggling with attachment difficulties.
Skirma also provides assessments and consultations in English, Lithuanian and Russian.
