Rehabilitation and recovery
Priory provides recovery-focused mental health services, along with specialist medical rehabilitation services treating Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and neuro-degenerative conditions.
Our care pathways are categorised under:
Priory specialises in behaviour support for people needing services within a broader, but focused pathway of care towards rehabilitation. The service users we rehabilitate often have a range of healthcare needs and co-morbid presentations, and may be adults who are:
- Stepping up from community placements
- Moving across from acute mental health wards
- Moving across from acute general, ITU or specialised neuro wards
- Stepping down from a secure provision
- Moving from other mental health services with no improvement in outcomes
We seek to meet individuals’ needs through positive behavioural support. All of our services are set within thriving communities; increasing service user self-awareness, independence, and engagement in the community are key parts of our model. Alongside this, we strive to adapt the living space to ensure a feeling of safety. We engage service users in a range of activities, and respond to them in a respectful and compassionate way.
Our nationwide network of specialist rehabilitation services include acute mental health facilities and step-down units to facilitate as quick and smooth a transition into local provision wherever possible. Priory also has its own network of enhanced community homes, nursing homes and supported living schemes that offer a consistent pathway of care for service users and commissioners. Designed with the aim of independent living in mind, our step down service encourages the individual to live as independently as possible whenever this is appropriate.
With services available both at our sites and within the community, we work closely with care coordinators and local healthcare professionals to facilitate the step-down process.
Working with Commissioners
The care we provide is part of an overall service user pathway. We therefore work closely with NHS providers to make referrals, transfers and discharges as safe and seamless as possible. We welcome NHS commissioners to visit our facilities to see the environment and meet the staff, witness the care your service users will receive, and to understand our commitment to recovery and rehabilitation.
Priory is experienced in working with NHS and Local Authority commissioners to look at supporting reduction in out of area placement spend and facilitating repatriation to services closer to home.
Please note, unfortunately we are unable to take self referrals for NHS services. For treatment to be funded through the NHS, this will need to be discussed with your GP or, if you have one, your Care Coordinator.
