Foundations 16

Establishing strong foundations for long-term recovery

Foundations 16 is Priory’s 16-day addiction treatment programme, providing a combination of inpatient and day care support, to people wanting to achieve freedom from addictive substances or behaviours.

With access to medical detox, a supportive space for stabilisation and risk reduction, group therapy and 12 months of aftercare, this short, flexible programme helps you begin your recovery journey in a safe, professionally-led environment – ideal if you need structured support without committing to extended residential treatment.

Programme overview: how the 16-day pathway works

Week 1 – inpatient detox or stabilisation (7 days)

You’ll stay at one of our sites under the care of a consultant psychiatrist. If you’re dependent on substances, you’ll undergo a safe, medically assisted detox. If you have a behavioural addiction, you’ll use this period to focus on stabilisation and reducing risks, while beginning to engage with the therapeutic environment.

Weeks 2 to 4 – day care programme (9 days)

Following your inpatient stay with us, you’ll return to the hospital for day care 3 days a week, where you’ll take part in intensive group therapy. Alongside this, you’ll have weekly one-to-one sessions with a dedicated addiction therapist to help you stay focused, work through challenges and continue building on the progress you’ve made.

Ongoing – 12 months of aftercare

After completing the full Foundations 16 programme, you’ll have access to our weekly aftercare group for 12 months, helping you stay connected, supported and focused on long-term recovery.

Who would benefit from this programme?

Foundations 16 is designed for adults struggling with substance or behavioural addictions, including alcohol, drugs, gambling or internet use.

It’s suited to people who would benefit from short-term, structured support in a safe and professionally supervised setting – particularly if you need to safely withdraw from substances, or would benefit from a stabilising and de-risking environment away from daily triggers due to the impact of behavioural addiction.

The second phase of the programme – intensive day care therapy – is appropriate for people who are medically stable and ready to engage in regular therapeutic work. Foundations 16 may also be a good fit if you have fewer complex needs, or are looking for a more flexible recovery pathway that fits around other life commitments, without the need for longer-term inpatient treatment.

What’s included in the Foundations 16 programme?

Expert medical and psychological care

You’ll receive a full assessment from our consultant psychiatrist and nursing team on admission, plus consultant reviews during your inpatient stay and after completing day care.

Detox or stabilisation support

If you’re struggling with a substance addiction, your first week will involve a 7-day medically assisted detox. For behavioural addictions, the inpatient stay offers a chance to stabilise in a safe and supportive environment, away from everyday triggers.

Structured therapy and relapse prevention

The programme includes group therapy, weekly one-to-one key working sessions, and psychoeducation. It follows a 12-step informed approach and teaches relapse prevention strategies.

Flexible day care model

After your inpatient stay, you’ll attend day care 3 days per week for 3 weeks. This stage helps you transition back into daily life, offering continued therapeutic support to strengthen your recovery, manage triggers, and address any challenges that arise.

Family support

Addiction doesn’t just affect one person – it can impact the whole family. While you're taking part in Foundations 16, your loved ones can join our weekly online family support programme to better understand addiction and learn how to support your recovery.

Ongoing aftercare and family support

As you prepare to leave, we’ll help you build a step-down plan that may include outpatient therapy or ongoing digital support. You’ll also receive 12 months of free aftercare, plus access to peer support and recovery groups to keep you connected.

Where is treatment delivered?

Foundations 16 is delivered as an inpatient programme at Priory hospitals across the UK.

All treatment is provided on-site, combining inpatient admission with structured day care. This in-person format allows for close clinical support and a more immersive therapeutic experience.

FAQs

How much does Foundations 16 cost?

The full 16-day programme starts from £9,929. This includes a week of inpatient care (with medical detox if needed), 3 weeks of day care therapy, weekly one-to-one sessions, family support and 12 months of aftercare.

Can I combine this with other Priory programmes?

Foundations 16 is designed to work as a complete standalone programme, bringing together inpatient support, day care and 12 months of aftercare. For many people, this provides the right level of support to begin and sustain their recovery.

That said, if you feel you need ongoing input after the programme, we also offer options like Recovery 360 (our digital support service) and Anchor 1:1 outpatient therapy. We’ll support you in finding what’s right for you, if and when you need it.

Do you accept insurance?

Many private medical insurance (PMI) providers do cover our addiction treatment services, but what's included can vary depending on your policy. The best thing to do is check with your insurer, or simply give us a call – our team will be happy to help you understand your options.
