Help finding an appropriate service

Use these questions to help you better understand which addiction treatment service is most appropriate for you

Every recovery journey at Priory begins with a free addiction assessment, designed to help you better understand your symptoms and identify the support that may be right for you.

To help you prepare, we’ve put together some simple questions. Reflecting on these in advance can help you get the most out of your session with a Priory specialist and can give us a helpful starting point for your assessment. But if you’re still unsure, that’s absolutely fine – we’ll talk through everything in more detail during the session.

What type of addiction are you looking for support with?

  1. Alcohol – go to Q2
  2. Drugs – go to Q3
  3. Behavioural addictions e.g. gambling, sex, exercise, relationships, gaming, social media etc. – go to Q5

Question 2 - Detox

Do you feel you need a professional medical detoxification to support you in withdrawing from alcohol?

A medically assisted detox is typically advised for those drinking 100 units per week and above. As a guide, a single 25ml measure of spirits is 1 unit, a pint of beer is 3 units and a 750ml bottle of wine is 9 units.

If you answered yes, Transform 28, Foundations 16 and Reset 7/10 all include a medical detoxification.

Question 3 - Withdrawal symptoms

Have you had withdrawal symptoms when previously attempting to stop drinking, or have you tried to stop taking drugs and find you have suffered serious physical withdrawal symptoms?

If you answered yes, this suggests you may require a medical detoxification. Suitable services include Transform 28, Foundations 16 and Reset 7/10.

Question 4 - Additional support

Do you want support with alcohol or drug use, and feel that weekly therapy isn’t enough – but don’t feel like you need a medical detox?

If you answered yes, suitable services include Flourish, Foundations 16, Elevate 12.

Question 5 - Treatment intensity

We can help you find the right treatment, but how much time do you feel able to set aside right now to focus on your recovery – considering things like work, family or home life?

28 days or more

    • Suitable programmes include Transform 28 and Flourish

14 to 21 days

    • A suitable programme is Flourish

7 to 14 days

    • Suitable programmes include Foundations 16, Reset 7/10 (for those needing detox), and Flourish

Up to 7 days

    • Suitable programmes include Reset 7, Elevate 12 and Anchor 1:1

Home-based or limited time commitment

    • Suitable programmes include Elevate 12, Anchor 1:1, and Recovery 360 (ideal for those stepping down from structured addiction treatment)

Question 6 - Treatment delivery

Would you prefer face-to-face or online treatment?

  • Face-to-face including overnight stays - consider Transform 28, Flourish, Foundations 16, or Reset 7/10
  • Face-to-face but I want to be home at night - consider Foundations 16 (after 7 day inpatient detox) or Anchor 1:1
  • Online treatment - consider Elevate 12, Recovery 360, or Anchor 1:1 (our 1:1 therapy can be done online)

Question 7 - Funding and budget

How would you be funding treatment, and if self-pay, what kind of budget do you have available?

Please note that our recommendations will be guided first and foremost by clinical need. However, we will take your budget into account, and all of this can be discussed during your free assessment.

If you plan to fund your treatment through private medical insurance, you should check with your insurer or give us a call to discuss.

If you are paying for treatment yourself:

  • If you can spend over £20,000, consider Transform 28
  • If you can spend £10,000 - £20,000, consider Flourish and Foundations 16
  • If you can spend £5,000 - £10,000, consider Flourish, Elevate 12, Reset 7 and Reset 10
  • If you can spend £0 - £5,000, consider Anchor 1:1, Flourish, Elevate 12, and Recovery 360

Question 8 - Relapse

Have you previously had addiction treatment and relapsed?

If you answered yes, our free addiction assessment will enable you to talk about your previous treatment experience and understand what may be the best approach for you.

If a detox is not required, it may be that our residential service, Flourish, is a good solution for you

Next steps

While these questions can’t choose a programme for you, they can help you understand what you might need from addiction treatment. If the same programme has come up more than once in your answers, it may be a sign that it’s well suited to your current needs and a good starting point to explore in your free addiction assessment.
