Free addiction assessment at your nearest hospital
The first step in seeking help for your addiction is our free addiction assessment. This can take place at any of our London-based addiction treatment hospitals or at our Harley Street and Fenchurch Street wellbeing centres. The purpose of this initial assessment is to discuss your concerns and explore your suitability to start addiction treatment at Priory.
The free assessment provides you with the chance to:
- Meet face-to-face with a member of our highly skilled addiction treatment team
- Discuss the challenges you’re facing, as well as your individual concerns, needs and options
- Explore the impact that your addiction is having on your life and the lives of your loved ones
- Talk through your proposed addiction treatment plan, which will be personalised according to your individual needs
- Ask any questions that you may have on the addiction treatment process
Addiction Treatment in London
Following your free assessment, it may be appropriate for you to start our 28-day Addiction Treatment Programme, where you stay at one of our hospitals in London on a residential basis. While 28 days is the recommended treatment length for addictions, we can consider flexible treatment lengths at some of our hospital sites, depending on your needs and commitments. As part of your addiction treatment, you will have the opportunity to tackle any physical symptoms that are associated with your addiction, via our detoxification (detox) process, before receiving intensive group and individual therapy in order to address the underlying causes and triggers for your addictive behaviours.
Addiction treatment at Priory is based on the well-known 12-Step model, which is an abstinence-based approach that was first introduced by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). This provides a set of guiding principles for the addiction treatment journey, and focuses on your motivation to change your unhealthy thought patterns and addictive behaviours, while also drawing on elements of spirituality within the treatment and recovery process.
Medically assisted withdrawal detoxification in London
If you’re struggling with an alcohol or drug addiction, an important step in the Addiction Treatment Programme may be for you to go through a medically assisted withdrawal detox process, before you move on to addiction therapy. Our London-based addiction detox programmes have been designed to ensure that this process is safe, thorough, and managed as smoothly and comfortably as possible for each patient, in our highly supportive and clinical environments. The goal of detox at Priory is to:
- Remove all traces of harmful and addictive substances from your body
- Reduce any physical withdrawal symptoms that you may experience when you no longer have alcohol or drugs in your system, by using controlled medication
- Enable you to become physically stable
Following detox, we strongly recommend that our patients continue with our residential Addiction Treatment Programme in order to get their addiction fully under control.
Day care and outpatient addiction treatment in London
Day care for addictions is usually used as a step-down in intensity once you have completed your 28-day inpatient treatment programme at one of our hospitals. It involves you attending a Priory hospital for a set number of days each week, depending on the intensity of the support that you need, and taking part in addiction therapy groups alongside current residential patients. However, unlike our inpatient programme, you will not stay at the hospital overnight and will return home following a day of therapy.
Outpatient treatment for addictions involves you attending hourly therapy sessions, usually on a weekly basis, with appointment times that can be flexible according to your existing commitments. Outpatient therapy can be delivered at our hospital sites as well as through our wellbeing centre network, which includes Priory Wellbeing Centres Harley Street and Fenchurch Street. Our wellbeing centres also offer a tailored outpatient therapy package for alcohol addiction in particular, which provides 12 one-to-one therapy sessions, certainty of price for initial treatment, discounted rates and a personalised treatment plan.

Whether it takes place on an inpatient, day care or outpatient basis, we can deliver addiction therapy in a number of different formats at Priory. These include:

Expert London-based addiction treatment teams
Our expert teams of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists and other specialists consist of leaders in the field of addiction treatment and rehab. We are committed to remaining up to date with current research, in order to ensure that our practice is guided by the latest thinking in addiction treatment, and follows National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. Therefore, we are extremely well-placed to provide high quality treatment for a wide range of addictions and addictive behaviours, producing the most positive individual outcomes for each and every one of our patients.
In addition, it’s important to note that many of our addiction therapists are also in addiction recovery themselves. These individuals have gone through comprehensive addiction treatment and have chosen to qualify as addiction therapists post-treatment, in order to help others and share their insight. Our patients also receive valuable input from our network of peer supporters throughout their treatment journey. Again, Priory’s peer supporters are ex-patients who choose to return to the hospital and take part in addiction therapy groups, in order to offer inspiration, hope and guidance, and share their positive recovery experiences with current patients.
Our recovering therapists and peer supporters are able to offer a different perspective to our patients, allowing them to explore and challenge themselves in unique ways.
Environments suited to recovery
At Priory, we believe that the environment in which treatment takes place is just as important as the treatment programme itself for enabling you to make a strong and lasting recovery.
Our hospitals are set within beautiful and attractive buildings, and many also have extensive, private grounds where you can relax and unwind. During inpatient treatment at Priory, you will stay in a comfortable and beautifully decorated bedroom, complete with modern en-suite facilities, and you will also benefit from spacious, peaceful and welcoming living areas, providing a tranquil space for you to enjoy relaxing leisure time.
Diet and nutrition are an important part of our treatment approach at Priory, and each of our hospitals deliver high quality on-site catering, with dishes that are healthy, nutritious, and tailored to suit your individual dietary requirements.
