Priory launched the Break the Chain campaign to highlight the cycle of addiction across generations.

Addiction can run in families, but it doesn’t have to define your future. Behind every statistic is a family coping with pain, uncertainty and fear. When one person breaks the chain of addiction, their children gain a healthier future, their family is freed from the cycle of pain, and generations ahead have the chance to thrive.

Watch: Helen talks about her recovery journey

Helen grew up with alcoholism in the home. When she became a parent she found her drinking escalated, leaving her feeling ashamed, increasingly alone and unable to cope.

In this video series, Helen talks about the impact that childhood trauma and growing up around alcohol had on her, as well as how she overcame her own struggles with addiction.

Watch: Jordan shares his story of addiction

Jordan grew up in the shadow of addiction – his dad struggled with substance misuse and passed away when Jordan was 13. As an adult, alcohol and drugs became Jordan's crutch, leaving him isolated, in debt to family and at times, suicidal.

In this video series, Jordan talks about his journey – from watching his dad struggle with addiction, to realising how his own behaviours affected his mum. He shares how he learnt to manage his emotions and overcome addiction.
