April Kerslake

Registered Practitioner Psychologist

About

Before emigrating back to the UK from New Zealand, April has worked clinically within a primary healthcare setting, delivering care to individuals and groups facing a variety of challenges, from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. April has experience using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), schema therapy skills and mindfulness-based skills. 

April’s approach to therapy is based on viewing health and wellbeing holistically by acknowledging social, physical, emotional and spiritual impacts on health. April believes in working alongside clients to understand their needs and goals, to help them make changes towards a rich and meaningful life.

Position at Priory

April Kerslake is a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered psychologist who has recently joined Priory. April works as a counselling psychologist, providing both one-to-one and group therapy.

Training

April completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Psychology with first class honours at the Auckland University of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand. She also gained her Master of Health Science in Psychology (first class honours) at the Auckland University of Technology as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology. April has attended additional trainings for schema therapy skills, DBT skills and for the advanced treatment of trauma.

Research interests

April’s research interests include mindfulness and meditation, and mental health care experiences and outcomes of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
