Dave Waller 360X246

Dave Waller

Dave joined Life Works in March 2017 and is the lead therapist for the Eating Disorder Programme. Previously he has worked as an addictions therapist, with experience in both private and community-based settings.

As well as his work at Priory Group, David has also run his own private counselling practice since February 2017.

David is a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and member of the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals (FDAP) and adheres to their ethical frameworks.

David qualified with a Postgraduate Diploma in Addiction Psychology and Counselling, with distinction, from London South Bank University in June 2014. He has since gone on to study eating disorders with the National Centre for Eating Disorders, attending their 13 day master practitioner course in 2017.

Since qualifying, David has regularly undertaken further professional development training, including courses in the following areas:

  • How to do counselling online: A conornavirus primer (Open University and BACP, 2020)
  • Cognitive Remediation Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa (2-day course, Kings College London, 2019)
  • Completed core training on Maudsley model of anorexia treatment for adults (13 hours, Priory Group, April 2018)
  • Completed master practitioner training course in eating disorders (104 hours, National Centre for Eating Disorders,  2017)
  • Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) for groups foundation training (12 hours, Blue Skies Recovery, 2016)
  • Mindfulness for wellbeing and peak performance training (Monash University via FutureLearn, 2016)
  • Caring for people with psychosis and schizophrenia training (Kings College London via FutureLearn, 2016)

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist who aims to provide a safe, supportive and professional environment for people to explore their difficulties and ultimately make positive changes in their lives.

As well as my work in this field, I am also able to draw on my considerable experience working as a commercial professional, during which time I held a variety of senior management roles, working with and leading teams of people to achieve change and growth targets in industry.
