Derek Hart
Addiction Treatment Programme Lead Therapist
Derek Hart

Derek Hart

Derek Hart is the lead therapist in Priory Hospital Bristol’s Addiction Treatment Programme, a position he has held since April 2017. In this position he is responsible for the day-to-day running and development of the Addiction Treatment Programme at Bristol.

Derek joined Priory as an addiction therapist in 2002 following his qualification. He is an accredited member of Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners (FDAP).

Training

Derek Hart began training to become an addiction therapist at Priory Hospital Bristol in 2001. The Priory Group in conjunction with EDEXCEL had developed a specific professional training programme for this purpose and Derek Hart successfully qualified in January 2002, having carried out all of the academic modules along with practical supervised placements at Bristol.

I have worked in addiction treatment for 17 years and that experience, along with general life experience, has provided me with valuable qualities that I bring to my role and the addiction department at Priory Hospital Bristol.

I have been fortunate enough to have worked with a wide spectrum of people and have always worked hard to utilise my experiences in a productive and effective manner in order to help the clients I meet to achieve their best possible potential outcomes. I follow a person-centred approach along with motivational interviewing techniques, and have a flexible approach to treatment and recovery techniques that are available.
