About

Dr Adarsh Dharendra first joined Priory in 2019 as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Priory Hospital, Bristol. He has been a consultant psychiatrist and Responsible Clinician for Acute Mental Health units on the site for NHS as well as privately referred patients/service users. Dr Dharendra specialises in “Adult Psychiatry” (over 18 years old) and “Substance Misuse” psychiatry, he is on the specialist register with the GMC from 2014. Dr Dharendra has also provided consultant cover for the Eating Disorder and Rehabilitation wards at Priory Hospital, Bristol.

Dr Dharendra carries out mental health and capacity assessments (including; as part of Deprivation of Liberty and Safeguarding and Financial capacity assessments) for a number of County Councils.

Dr Dharendra has given lectures on “Deprivation of Liberty and Safeguarding (DoLS)-form 4: Medical Assessments” for the senior Social Workers and trainee Best Interest Assessors with the Hampshire County Council as guest faculty for over 3 years now. He is regularly sought for second opinion by consultant colleagues and other psychiatrists, and he also gives expert opinion on Medicolegal cases (court reports).

Dr Dharendra has under his belt multiple years of experience as a consultant psychiatrist within NHS; in inpatient and community settings, with assertive outreach and crisis teams as well as intensive care mental health units.

Training

Dr Adarsh Dharendra graduated from the Armed forces Medical College, a premier medical school in Pune, India with a Bachelor of Medicine-Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 2001-02.

Dr Dharendra then came to UK for further specialisation and post-graduation training in 2003-04, he commenced his psychiatry training with University College of London as a Senior house officer. He completed his core training in psychiatry and attained his Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) status in 2008. He then did further specialisation in Adult Psychiatry (over 18 years old) from East of England Deanery and he trained in Substance misuse Psychiatry at Wessex Deanery. He got his CCT in Adult Psychiatry and Substance Misuse Psychiatry and he has been on specialist register with GMC from 2014.

With more than 15 years of experience in Psychiatry, I am skilled in diagnosis (and formulation), collating necessary information and tailoring treatments while keeping a holistic biopsychosocial approach to help my service users’ recovery.

I involve service users and/ or their families (with consent) in preparing treatment plans that are most suitable to their specific needs/personal circumstances.
