Dr Akim Kassim

Dr Kassim is a visiting consultant at Priory, who approaches assessment and treatment holistically, with a focus on recovery. 

Training

Dr Kassim obtained the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBCHB, 1992) from the Ogun State University, Nigeria. He subsequently underwent basic psychiatric training at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’s Training Scheme in Psychiatry and successfully completed the Membership Examination in 2002, leading to the award of Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). Thereafter, he underwent a Higher Specialist Training Scheme in Psychiatry at the South London and Maudsley Foundation NHS Trust with four years’ valuable experience at HMP Brixton as part of a special interest session; Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, General Adult and Older Adult Psychiatry. This led to the award of Certificate of Completion of Training in General and Older Adult Psychiatry, with endorsement in Psychiatric Liaison. He has an Approved Clinician status and he is approved by the Secretary of State under Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 as having specialist experience in the assessment and the treatment of mental disorder. He holds a Post Graduate Certification in Clinical Forensic Medicine and has extensive experience of working as a Forensic Medical Examiner with a number of Police Forces in the UK. In recognition of his contribution to the values of the Royal College of Psychiatrist, he was appointed to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrist (FRCPsych).
