Dr Amelia Rana

Dr Amelia Rana has worked at Priory as a psychologist since May 2017. She works one-to-one with patients providing therapy and psychological assessments and delivers various groups including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for depression, CBT for anxiety and mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT).

Dr Rana is a counselling psychologist who works with individuals, couples and groups. She is also a clinical supervisor, trainer and university lecturer. She has over 15 years counselling experience working with a diverse range of people, facing a variety of issues and difficulties.

Dr Rana has over 15 years counselling experience working with a range of issues and has worked in various capacities including roles as an addiction therapist, an advocate, a university student counsellor to those targeted by hate crime, in the NHS as a one-to-one therapist for clients presenting with a variety of issues (including anxiety, depression and stress) and in the NHS facilitating groups.

After completing her first degree in computer science, Dr Rana worked for several years as a computer programmer and analyst. During this time, she completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) with Honours (Hons) in Psychology and began her training as a therapist in 2003 at the University of Bristol, completing a Certificate in Counselling.

Dr Rana began her Master of Science (MSc) in Counselling Psychology in 2004 and qualified as a counsellor in 2007. She completed her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology in 2013.

In addition, Dr Rana has completed various continuing development courses (CPD). She also runs CPD training herself and teaches at doctoral level. She has also completed further training in:

  • Addiction and motivational interviewing

Dr Rana is a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society. She is also registered as a counselling psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Research Interests

Dr Rana's master's research explored: ‘Asian people’s experiences of indigenous healers’

Her doctoral research was: ‘British women’s experiences of racist hate crime’

I strongly believe in the uniqueness of every individual and believe that you can resolve any difficulties you may be facing. My therapeutic approach is relational and integrative, meaning that I offer you a compassionate and therapeutic space to explore the issues you want to work on. I draw from a variety of approaches (e.g. cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), relational, person-centred, transactional analysis, transcultural, mindfulness, gestalt and psychodynamic) depending on our counselling process and your preferences.
