About
Dr Munshi is a consultant psychiatrist with over 15 years of psychiatry experience.
Dr Munshi currently holds a substantive NHS post as a general adult consultant psychiatrist and is on the General Medical Council (GMC’s) Specialist Register, with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry with specialist endorsement in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.
He joined Priory as a consultant psychiatrist in 2018, where he consulted across several adult wards at Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal before undertaking his current substantive NHS position in 2024. He became a visiting consultant for Priory Wellbeing Centre Manchester in May 2021.
Within the NHS Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust, Dr Munshi is a consultant psychiatrist for a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) for female patients with severe and enduring mental health disorders and for the local crisis and home treatment team.
Dr Munshi acts as a local negotiating committee (LNC) representative for his consultant group. He is also a trainer of psychiatry trainees, an examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) and an interviewer of higher specialist trainees who wish to enter into specialist registrar/specialty training in psychiatry.
He has expertise in the assessment and management of most psychiatric conditions affecting adults, with substantial experience in general adult and rehabilitation psychiatry.
Dr Munshi predominantly treats patients with anxiety disorders, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, psychotic spectrum disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). In addition, he holds certification in the diagnosis and treatment of adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and the diagnosis and management of autism.
Training
Dr Munshi was born and brought up in India, he attended primary and secondary schools in India. He received his undergraduate medical education in India and undertook specialist training in psychiatry in the UK.
Dr Munshi gained the postgraduate qualification of membership of the RCPsych by examination at the earliest possible opportunity. He is eligible to act as an approved clinician and responsible clinician within the meaning of the Mental Health Act 1983, and he is approved by the secretary of state as a doctor certified as having special experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorder under s12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
