Dr Gary Jackson
Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Gary Jackson

Dr Jackson has worked at Priory Hospital Chelmsford as a general adult psychiatrist since 1993. He has also been medical director of Chelmsford for the last 10 years.

Dr Jackson completed his postgraduate psychiatric training on the Oxford and University of London (UCL) training programmes. After qualifying as a consultant psychiatrist, he initially worked in academic psychiatry at UCL and then went into fulltime clinical work, which he has done since.

Research Interests

Earlier in Dr Jackson's career, his research was in anxiety disorders, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

I aim to provide a high quality, professional and reliable service to my patients. I combine my experience with my knowledge of the best evidence-based treatments, to guide patients through their recovery. I put the patient and their loved ones first in considering the most appropriate interventions.

I work with adults (18 - 65 years) who need help with their mental health. I am experienced in treating almost all types of mental health problems in the general adult population. I have a particular interest in treating anxiety disorders such as panic, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and general anxiety/stress.

I often engage psychological therapists to work alongside me to assist my patients and recommend medications when appropriate (after full discussion with my patient).

I am recognised by all the main private health insurers in the UK and treat self-funding patients too. I keep up to date with ongoing professional development and am fully approved in my practice by the General Medical Council and Royal College of Psychiatrists.
