He emigrated to the UK in 1993 and trained on the Imperial College Psychiatric Training Scheme in London from 1995, becoming a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1998. He worked as a consultant psychiatrist in the NHS for more than 10 years, in both general and old age psychiatry.

In addition to his membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, he is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine and the Medical Protection Society.
