
Dr Jaya Gowrisunkur
Dr Jaya Gowrisunkur is a consultant psychiatrist and medical psychotherapist, and a staff consultant at Priory. She is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has trained as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist.
Dr Gowrisunkur graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in medicine. She then completed her training as a psychiatrist and a medical psychotherapist after which she worked as a consultant psychiatrist in the NHS. Dr Gowrisunkur has been a staff consultant at Priory Hospital Altrincham since 2001. She now also works as a visiting consultant at Priory Wellbeing Centre, Harley Street, in London.
Dr Gowrisunkur is experienced in the assessment and treatment of general psychiatric disorders and is an expert in the assessment and treatment of post-traumatic conditions including complex post traumatic states. She has also treated many individuals suffering as a result of stress at work and ‘burnout’.
Dr Gowrisunkur regularly prepares medical reports on the impact of psychiatric disorders on the occupational future of employees in various organisations including the NHS and the police force. She provides reports for occupational health departments, pension agencies and other such bodies as part of her professional duties. She also does medico-legal work, which involves reports on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and psychiatric disorders. She provides reports on the mental health of parents in childcare proceedings.
