I am the medical director and consultant psychiatrist at Priory Hospital Chelmsford, specialising in general adult psychiatry. My approach is collaborative, formulation-led and evidence-based, with a strong focus on clear communication, safe treatment planning and multidisciplinary working. I am an honorary lecturer at Imperial College of Medicine and contribute to national standards through my roles with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, including rehabilitation psychiatry accreditation and the Specialist Advisory Committee for General Adult Psychiatry.
Position at Priory
Dr Manan Thakrar is the medical director and consultant psychiatrist at Priory Hospital Chelmsford. He specialises in general adult psychiatry, with experience supporting adults across a broad range of mental health conditions and addictions. His clinical work includes assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for presentations such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, PTSD and other trauma-related conditions, psychosis, obsessive compulsive and related disorders, personality disorders, and neurodevelopmental presentations including ADHD and autism, as well as sleep difficulties and stress-related problems. He also works with people seeking help for alcohol, drug and behavioural addictions, offering integrated, individualised care.
Alongside his clinical leadership role, Dr Thakrar contributes to education and professional development and has spoken on mental health at a range of professional forums. He is an honorary lecturer at Imperial College of Medicine, a member of the Rehabilitation Psychiatry accreditation committee, and serves on the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Specialist Advisory Committee for General Adult Psychiatry.
Dr Thakrar’s qualifications include MBBS, MD (Psychiatry) and MRCPsych, and he offers in-person, video and telephone consultations. He speaks English, Hindi and Gujarati (and also speaks Urdu).
