Dr Michael Rowlands
Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Michael Rowlands

Dr Michael Rowlands

Dr Rowlands is a visiting consultant at Priory Hospital Roehampton. He was appointed the first ever trainee psychiatrist within Priory Group in 1981 and his contact with Priory has continued intermittently over the years. He has been a visiting consultant at Priory Hospital Roehampton for seven years.

Dr Rowlands is a Member and Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He initially trained in Medicine at Birmingham Medical School, graduating in 1979.

I am a very experienced consultant adult psychiatrist with a special interest in addictive behaviours who has been in private practice since 1990. I left my NHS commitments in 1995 to devote myself to full time to private practice. I, therefore, have had extensive experience (more than 8000 patients) over the course of the last twenty or more years. I have built up a network of experience, enthusiastic and well-trained therapists, in various disciplines, which complements the therapists at Priory. I am based at Priory Hospital Roehampton.

I have special experience in dealing with aeronautical problems, and have a good working relationship with the civil aviation authority medical team, as well as aviation medical examiners. I have extensive experience in treating pilots for psychological problems and ensuring that they are able to return to their work.

I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and am a medical examiner and supervisor for the General Medical Council. I have had experience in assessing and managing the interface between mental health in the medical profession and the General Medical Council.
