Dr Prabhakaran Naveen

I provide excellent quality of care for my patients, with my years of knowledge and experience working in psychiatry with adults of working age. I moved on from my continuous NHS employment at various grades in psychiatry since 2001, to the inpatient team at Priory Hospital Bristol in January 2023.

Position at Priory

Dr Naveen is a visiting consultant psychiatrist at Priory Hospital Bristol, providing assessment and management of mental disorders in adults of working age group.

Dr Naveen is also employed as a consultant psychiatrist at the Priory Hospital Bristol’s adult inpatient ward in since January 2023.

Training

• Dr Naveen obtained his medical degree (MBBS) in 1997 in India, and moved to England in 1999. He worked in the NHS from August 2000 until January 2023.
• Dr Naveen completed his post graduate psychiatric training (MRCPsych) in 2006 and Master of Laws in Legal Aspects of Medical Practice (LLM) in May 2011.
• From 2005 until November 2013, Dr Naveen worked as a specialty doctor, associate specialist and locum consultant psychiatrist in the NHS, in community mental health teams, early intervention team in psychosis and the home treatment and crisis team.
• From November 2013 until November 2019, Dr Naveen was the consultant psychiatrist for the adult psychiatric inpatient unit in Bath.
• From November 2019 until January 2023, he was the consultant psychiatrist in the primary care liaison service (PCLS) in Bath, which is one of the access services for mental health referrals.

Additional credentials of Dr Prabhakaran Naveen include:

• Currently the Medical Lead for BaNES (AWP NHS Trust) since April 2018
• Provided input into the AWP NHS Trust - Medicines Optimisation group prior to 2018, which reviews policies and procedures for safe use of medication within AWP NHS Trust
• Involved in mental health service improvement alongside his primary care colleagues in Primary Care networks (PCNs-BaNES) and with the local systems for BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire
• Next NHS Revalidation is due in 2024

Research interests

• Dr Naveen has undertaken audits as part of his training, and also participated in nationally audits (Royal College of Psychiatrists)

• Dr Naveen is section 12(2) approved and an approved clinician under the Mental Health Act 1983 (renewed every 5 years)
• Dr Naveen remains in in good professional standing for continuous professional development (CPD) with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, London (CPD cycle from March to February annually) and NHS revalidation with the GMC
• Dr Naveen was the medical lead for BaNES (AWP NHS Trust) from April 2018 until February 2022
