Dr Robin Wilson is a general adult consultant psychiatrist at Priory Hospital Roehampton. He has extensive experience across general adult psychiatry both inpatient and community, rehabilitation psychiatry and addiction services. He has consulted in South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust for the National Psychosis Unit (Bethlem Royal Hospital), Florence and Nelson Wards (Lambeth acute female inpatient units), Lambeth Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (Lambeth Hospital, male), Lambeth Alliance Rehabilitation Team and Southwark High Support Rehabilitation Team. In addition to SLAM, he has also consulted at South Westminster Primary Care Networks, Hounslow East and West MINT teams and Inclusion Visions Thurrock Substance Misuse Team.
Dr Wilson graduated from University College London Medical School in 2004 achieving an intercalated BSchons in psychology in 2001. He trained in psychiatry on the Maudsley Hospital rotation from 2007 to 2013 achieving Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2010. He then combined clinical with academic work at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience in the Psychosis Studies Department from 2013 to 2021 researching the interaction between psychosis and cannabinoids. During this period, he was awarded several grants including the MRC Confidence in Concept 2015, the NIHR Clinical Research Network CRN Clinician Fund 2019 and the NIHR CRN Greenshoots Award 2020. He achieved an MDres in psychological medicine in 2020 under the supervision of Professor Sagnik Bhattacharyya, defending his thesis motivational salience, the clinical high-risk state for psychosis and acute modulation by cannabidiol. To date, he has co-authored 27 articles.
Position at Priory
I joined Priory in June 2025 as a substantive general adult psychiatrist with an interest in addictions.
Training
Dr Wilson graduated in medicine (MBBS) from University College London Medical School in 2004, achieving an intercalated BSc(hons) in psychology along the way. He joined the Maudsley Hospital psychiatrist program in 2007, achieving Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2010, and completing run-through training in 2013 before moving to the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience.
Dr Wilson combined clinical and academic work as a clinical research fellow in the Psychosis Studies Department at the IOPPN from 2013 to 2021 researching the interaction between psychosis and cannabinoids in Professor Sagnik Bhattacharyya's lab. He was awarded an MD(res) in Psychological Medicine in 2020, defending his thesis "Motivational salience, the clinical high-risk state for psychosis and acute modulation by cannabidiol."
Research interests
Dr Wilson has a special interest in the interaction between substance use disorders and severe mental illness, specifically the role of cannabinoids, both harmful and therapeutic. During his time at the IOPPN, he was awarded several grants including the MRC Confidence in Concept 2015, the NIHR Clinical Research Network CRN Clinician Fund 2019 and the NIHR CRN Greenshoots Award 2020. To date he has authored over 30 papers.
