Dr Afzal joined Partnerships in Care in 2013 as the responsible clinician for the medium secure women’s mental health service at Calverton Hill Hospital in Nottingham. In 2016 he was promoted to Clinical Director and was asked to set up and establish Partnerships in Care’s hospital portfolio in the West Midlands. In 2017 the Priory merged with Partnerships in Care and Dr Afzal was promoted to the position of Medical Director for Priory Healthcare in the West Midlands. He helps support doctors, care teams and managers across eight separate sites in maintaining the high levels of care Priory is renowned for.
Dr Afzal now manages women who require inpatient care for mood, trauma and self-harm related issues.
Dr Afzal has been seeing private patients alongside his other responsibilities, since 2017. In his clinic he helps adults of working age who require mental health assessment and treatment by an experienced psychiatrist. He has access to highly qualified therapists at Priory Wellbeing Centres nationally so can organise therapies that might be required.
Dr Afzal graduated from The University of Dundee Medical School in 2004 with a Bachelor of Medicine-Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) Degree.
Dr Afzal has always been committed to psychiatry and started basic psychiatry specialty training in 2005.
