Dr Sara Beleil is a general adult consultant psychiatrist with extensive clinical, teaching, and management experience.

She has over 20 years of experience treating mental health disorders, including anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, addiction, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), women’s mental health difficulties, perinatal disorders, panic attacks, somatoform disorders, personality disorders, psychotic disorders and mental health treatment.

Dr Beleil is a passionate advocate for parity of esteem for mental health. She was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) in 2017 as a mark of distinction and in recognition of the significant contribution she has made to the core purpose of the Royal College of Psychiatrists throughout her career.

In 2022, Dr Beleil was also elected to the Fellowship of the Faculty of Public Health (FFPH) through distinction in recognition of the significant contribution she has made to the science and practice of public health in the UK. Dr Beleil continues to contribute to mental health improvements in the black ethnic minority community in the UK through the Faculty of Public Health standards and best practice guidance. 

Prior to working at Priory, Dr Beleil was a consultant psychiatrist at South West London & St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) for over a decade. 

She is an educator and was the training programme director for the core psychiatry training scheme through Health Education England (2017 -2021) and the college tutor (2014 -2021). 

Dr Beleil is a CASC examiner at the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has taken on the role of lead clinical supervisor and academic tutor for psychiatry and GP trainees at Priory Hospital Roehampton.

Position at Priory

Dr Sara Beleil joined Priory Hospital Roehampton in 2021 as a general adult consultant psychiatrist. She offers patient-centred assessments and treatments for a wide range of mental health difficulties. Dr Beleil is a caring, highly professional psychiatrist who recognises the role of families and collaborative dialogue in the provision of holistic care to her patients.

Training and qualifications

  • Dr Beleil graduated from Khartoum University, Sudan with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 1989.

  • She trained in the UK on the West Yorkshire Psychiatry Training Scheme before moving to South West London & St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust in 2003.

  • Dr Beleil is an Approved Clinician Section 12(2A), Mental Health Act 1983. She has been a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) since 2006 and was elected for Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) in 2017.

  • Dr Beleil has done postgraduate diploma in Clinical Psychiatry at Leeds University and a diploma in Business Administration & Management at Kingston University. She has a postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Systemic Family Therapy (Accredited by The Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice).

  • Most recently, Dr Beleil became a fellow of the Faculty of Public Health, UK

Research Interests

Dr Beleil is interested in clinical psychopharmacology and in facilitating psychoeducation to support her patients in making informed choices regarding their treatment and care.
