Dr Suraya Khan is a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist with over 25 years’ psychiatry experience. Having completed her psychiatry training in Manchester, she worked as a consultant in Greater Manchester for 10 years in the NHS and 4 years at Priory. 

She has a wealth of experience in managing a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other forms of psychosis, acute mental health crisis, postnatal depression and postnatal psychosis.

She has specialist experience in the management of adult eating disorders. 

Her experience also includes assessing and managing transcultural issues in mental health.

Training

Dr Khan graduated from the University of Kashmir (India) in 1991 with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). In the UK, she completed her training in psychiatry between 1997 and 2003 in the North West, working across Greater Manchester hospitals and was awarded the Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2003. During her training in Manchester, she trained in various subspecialties, including old age psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, perinatal psychiatry, and psychotherapy. During her consultant years in the NHS, Dr Khan was consistently training junior doctors in psychiatry, and continues her honorary role as an examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatrists

Research interests

During training years did a research post ‘Functional imaging in deaf psychotic patients’ - Based at Manchester University (1999)
