Dr Vik Patel

Dr Vik always aims to provide the most exceptional care to patients and shows a willingness to ensure patients goals for treatment are met.

Dr Vik brings his own personality and excitement to learn new skills to his work and focuses on a values-based system to support his patients with their recovery. Dr Vik specialises in the treatment known as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) for people have difficulties in managing emotions alongside Radically Open DBT (RO DBT) to treat patients who have interpersonal difficulties.

Position at Priory

Dr Vik has started at Hayes Grove as Consultant Psychologist, who is taking the role on as Lead Psychologist for the Private therapy service. Dr Vik brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from managing teams to developing services, and specialising in DBT for almost 10 years. Dr Vik has previously worked at Priory Hospital Burgess Hill as Lead Psychologist and at Priory Hospital St Johns as Consultant Psychologist. Dr Vik is working toward being a non-medical responsible clinician (RC).

Prior to working for Priory, Dr Vik was the Lead Psychologist for personality disorders pathway in the National Health Service (NHS) for Central North West London (CNWL) for 5 years. During this time, he specialised in the access, delivery, and treatment for personality disorders and trauma care. In addition, Dr Vik worked closely with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) offering consultation to teams and providing treatment.

Training

Dr Vik Patel has specialised in the treatment for personality disorders and has been trained in the following specialist subjects:

  • Trainee as non-medical RC
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
  • Radically Open DBT (RO DBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
  • Schema Therapy

Research Interests

Dr Vik has an interest in working with black and ethnic monitories, where he has conducted several research opportunities to understand therapy experience.
