Helen Murphy

CAMHS Therapist

About

My background is working with families and young people who have experienced behavioural problems, those struggling to engage in education, in the community or may have committed offences. I have worked within pupil referral units, youth offending teams, in partnership with social care and schools. I am also experienced within the charity sector, working with young carers. I also have experience and training in working with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

My therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), transactional analysis (TA), person-centred therapy (PCT), and multisystemic therapy, which works with all the systems around a client and the factors that are impacting on them, for example, home, friends, the community, work or education. This can help identify and plan changes. I also provide psychoeducation - problem solving skills, communication skills, identifying strengths and struggles, barriers to change and formulating action plans.

Sessions will involve talking, play, creative expression, and developing strategies to balance the stresses of life.
