Dr Martin Baggaley is an experienced general adult psychiatrist who has worked as a consultant for over 30 years. He spent the first half of his career as a psychiatrist working in the British Army where he gained extensive experience of treating depression, anxiety disorders, problems with alcohol and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr Baggaley then joined the NHS working as a consultant psychiatrist in Lewisham and Lambeth in both community and inpatient settings. Dr Baggaley was the medical director for the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust for almost 10 years. Dr Baggaley worked in and then ran the sexual and relationship problem clinic at first Guy’s Hospital and then the Maudsley for over 25 years.

Dr Baggaley has appeared frequently on TV and radio, including a BAFTA winning Channel 4 series.

Dr Baggaley uses both psychological and psychopharmacological approaches with his patients. He trained in cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) at Guy’s Hospital.

Training

Dr Baggaley qualified in medicine from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, and undertook his higher psychiatric training at Guy’s Hospital, London.

Research interests

Dr Baggaley has published widely on a variety of topics including PTSD, psychosexual medicine and medical management.
