Personal statement

I don’t feel that one approach fits all so I have therefore trained in multiple modalities, such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), compassion focused therapy (CFT), solution focused therapy (SFT), cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) and a dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills based approach.

This enables me to provide you with therapy that suits you individually. We can discuss this during our first assessment. My main aim is to ensure you feel you are achieving your goals, so I provide short and long term therapy, depending on your needs. I am able to treat common aspects of mental health such as depression, anxiety and self-esteem issues, but I have also trained in more specialist areas such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for weight management, trauma/post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), dissociation and fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue. I also have training in dissociative identity disorder (DID).

Training

  • BSc, Cardiff University, Psychology
  • MSc, Keele University, Counselling Psychology
  • EMDR, EMDR Extra (all three parts completed)

Research Interests

Previously participated in cognitive neuroscience research at Birmingham University.

I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental approach to give clients space to be heard. Therapy is not a one size fits all approach so I will give the client autonomy in deciding how they wish to deal with their current issues. I have completed training courses in other approaches since completing my counselling psychology masters and aim to use a range of techniques in order to improve mental health. I will formulate with the client so we can manage goals together.

My main special interest is trauma and I offer EMDR and trauma focused therapies (such as cognitive analytical therapy) to treat this. However, I am also able to offer counselling and CBT techniques for depression and anxiety. The solution focused approach combined with DBT skills can often be particularly useful for alleviating symptoms of anxiety and depression
