About
Rupert Turner is the lead addiction therapist at Priory Hospital Woking. Here, he provides one-to-one and group therapy to inpatients and outpatients, while also managing the addiction treatment programme team.
He works with an integrative approach, using tools and techniques from various therapies. His primary focus is on an empathetic and attuned connection with clients. Ultimately, Rupert sees his job as creating a safe space and relationship that offers the client the clarity and compassion to find the answers for their issues that are right for them.
Training
Rupert has been working in addiction treatment for over 12 years and knows that trauma often plays a role in many mental health issues, including addiction. He is trained as a somatic experiencing practitioner, meaning he works with clients to help with the physical embodiment of their trauma, as well as the mental and emotional. This includes helping clients to feel safe and resourced within their own bodies, and in the therapeutic relationship, to allow clients to begin to process their traumatic experiences while working with their co-occurring mental health issues. He also used eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients heal their trauma.
