Sarah Maddocks

Sarah Maddocks joined Priory Group in 2019 as a CBT/EMDR Psychotherapist. She is an accredited CBT Therapist and a member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), the EMDR Association and maintains her Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) professional registration.

Sarah delivers individual and group therapy across the general psychiatry and eating disorder inpatient wards at the Priory Hospital Hayes Grove. Sarah is able to provide clinical supervision to therapy and nursing staff and works closely with the eating disorder multidisciplinary team, both inpatient and wider community, to continually review and develop the eating disorder service.

Sarah has a good reputation within Hayes Grove as an experienced, compassionate and dedicated psychotherapist, and is often approached to address complex and severe psychological difficulties. Alongside her other responsibilities she offers clinical supervision and some therapy privately, and engages in extensive and regular clinical supervision herself to develop her different specialisms.

Sarah graduated from the University of Nottingham School of Nursing in 2006 with a Master’s degree in Nursing Science and qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN). After working in inpatient adult and child and adolescent services, and children’s community services, she then completed a postgraduate Certificate in CBT for Children and Young People in 2009 at the University of Derby. She achieved her Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy in 2013 from King’s College London, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience.

Since becoming fully accredited as a CBT Psychotherapist, Sarah has undertaken additional training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) in 2013 with Mary Welford, CBT Clinical Supervision at the Institute of Psychiatry in 2015. She has also undertaken specialist perinatal training with the Maudsley, Imagery CBT training with Anne Hackman, additional OCD training and CBT group therapy training.

In 2017 she began her EMDR training, completing the beginner and intermediate training, then continually practising to undertake her Advanced EMDR in 2019, completing the full Richman EMDR Training, approved by EMDR International Association and by EMDR Europe Association.

She has recently built on her EMDR foundation with additional training in eating disorder and group Schema therapy, completed an International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) approved Certificate training in Group Schema Therapy.

I always aim to provide high quality, compassionate and individualised treatment to all my clients. I have worked with mental health and psychological difficulties for the last 17 years, primarily within the NHS, providing me with extensive experience including secondary care, specialist eating disorder care, within inpatient, community and outpatient settings, in both child and adolescent and adult services. I regularly receive very positive feedback, particularly regarding my empathetic approach and clinical knowledge.

I have always fostered good relationships across the multidisciplinary team and have been highly regarded and sought out to supervise therapists and health professionals, providing me with extensive experience as a clinical supervisor. I have experience in assessment, individual psychological therapy and within a group setting, with a range of difficulties including depression, social anxiety, perinatal depression and anxiety, OCD, PTSD and complex trauma, GAD, panic disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobias, BBD, trichotillomania, eating disorders and personality disorders - often in the context of extreme social difficulty, child protection concerns, substance misuse, ASD and/or physical health difficulties/disabilities.
