Serena Kelly
Psychodynamic psychotherapist
Serena Kelly

Serena Kelly is a highly skilled and experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist. Accredited with the (BCP) British Psychoanalytical Council, she joined Priory Hospital North London in 2019. With over a decade of clinical experience, Serena has honed her expertise in working with clients facing complex needs, encompassing mental health challenges, trauma, substance use disorders, involvement in the criminal justice system, and homelessness. Her professional journey is characterised by dedication and empathy, reflecting a strong work ethic and a deep commitment to her clients' wellbeing.

One of Serena’s notable strengths lies in her exceptional communication skills, which play a pivotal role in building strong and trusting relationships with her clients. Her profound understanding of trauma enhances her ability to provide effective therapeutic interventions and support for her clients, on their healing journey. Upholding confidentiality and data protection is a paramount priority for Serena, ensuring that her clients' personal information remains secure and protected.

Serena's ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, religious, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds is a testament to her inclusive approach to psychotherapy. This inclusive mindset fosters an environment of acceptance, allowing clients to feel seen, heard, and understood.

Currently, Serena actively collaborates within a multidisciplinary team, where she attends to the needs of inpatients, day care patients and outpatients, with varying degrees of physical issues and complex requirements. Additionally, Serena facilitates a psychotherapy group, creating a safe and engaging space for patients to explore their emotions, unconscious processes, and interpersonal dynamics. Through experiential group therapy and the application of psychodynamic principles, Serena nurtures self-awareness, emotional growth, and healing within the group setting.

As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, one of her aims is to make unconscious processes become more consciously accessible to the client, so that there is a possibility of change in the internal world, in patterns of behavior, and in ways of relating to others. Her psychology degree enables Serena to understand people and use the knowledge gained in her every day role and using the skills she has learnt from clinical experience.
