Art therapy sessions

Art making can be an inherently enjoyable process. Within art therapy art is a powerful tool within the therapy setting. Using art and talking to the therapist can give the opportunity to express your inner thoughts, while helping you to better understand and make sense of your emotions and the world in which you live.

Art Therapy is a flexible medium, where you decide on the amount of time that you spend making art and talking; Therefore, sessions are adapted to the needs of each person.

During your first session, Stella will talk about what issues bring you to therapy and guide you through the different art materials that are available to help you to find a way to begin.

The process of art making can be spontaneous and I help to facilitate a connection with feelings or thoughts which may seem too complex or confused to put into words. An image or sculpture can hold feelings experienced and they may seem less overwhelming and more manageable in a visual form. Making a connection between the art and what is happening emotionally is what often enables the person attending the session to identify what underlies their symptoms of anxiety or/depression or the feelings associated with an event.
