Get help with mental health at Priory

Mental health problems can affect the way you think, feel and behave. For some people, these feelings go away naturally without any long-term challenges, but for others, these negative emotions can become worse over time. This can result in a serious mental health condition, such as anxiety or depression, which can have a negative effect on your wellbeing and quality of life. However, mental health conditions are treatable and it’s possible for you to make a full recovery – the most important step is to get help.

Mental health support near you

Our Priory sites in London and Southern England specialise in the management and treatment of a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and stress. We deliver lots of different types of therapies, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a form of counselling, or 'talking therapy', that can help you manage the challenges you’re facing by changing the way you think and behave, alongside more intensive residential treatment programmes to suit your specific needs.

We offer residential ‘inpatient’ treatment and outpatient therapy at our hospitals and treatment centres across the UK. These include our flagship site, Priory Hospital Roehampton, as well as Priory Hospitals Woking and Hayes Grove. We also deliver outpatient therapy at our Harley Street Wellbeing Centre. Priory's leading specialists are committed to providing expert therapy and treatment, helping you to make a strong recovery.

Causes of mental health problems

It’s normal for everyone to feel worried, sad, upset, or experience other difficult emotions from time-to-time, in response to different life events and situations.

For most people though, these feelings tend to be only temporary, and are often resolved naturally without causing any long-term problems. However, for some, these negative emotions can become worse over time, resulting in what can become a debilitating mental health condition.

An estimated 1 in 4 people in the UK experience a mental health problem everyach year, with 1 in 6 people experiencing one of the more common mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression or stress.

Introducing rTMS treatment

In addition to the above techniques, we also offer a cutting-edge therapeutic approach, known as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). rTMS is a safe, effective and non-invasive treatment method. It’s primarily used to treat depression but has also been found to be effective in the treatment of other mental health conditions, including OCD.

This treatment uses rapidly changing magnetic fields to stimulate areas of the brain that are involved in mood regulation. rTMS is usually used to treat people who have treatment-resistant depression or treatment-resistant OCD, but it can also be used as an entry-point to treatment, if appropriate.

This novel approach is evidence-based and has been approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for use in depression treatment, in particular. We are proud to offer rTMS at Priory Wellbeing Harley Street, to treat people with depression and OCD. This is one of the few places in the country where this state-of-the-art treatment can be accessed.
