As a community psychiatric nurse (CPN), I was very impressed with Melton Place, from the start of beginning work with them. Melton Place is unique, with great facilities, staff support and it feels a little like home, still with the importance of certain clinical areas.
The transitional period of someone in hospital to being discharged to Melton Place has been concise, structured, and thought-out. The team communicated clearly, built rapport easily with clients and with professionals working alongside them, making this part of the client’s life feel relaxed and at ease.
The team are very passionate about collaborative working, and mostly putting the client first, which has been evident from the start. The transitional plan created is exceptional and detailed. I have loved looking at the clients' planners, journey pack, goal setting and social stories – all showing a personalised approach. I have appreciated the 10-day period to allow clients and the staff there to get to know one another, know what needs to be worked on and what support is needed.
The work that Melton Place does enables clients to slowly settle into their new home with less disruptions, and gain trust and therapeutic relationships on the way. I feel this process if very successful.
In my experience, I have yet to find a placement such as Melton Place, and there needs to be more places like this around the country. It has been a pleasure working with the staff at Melton Place, and I hope in the future there are more places like this available to clients in need.
