Alex’s* letter of appreciation – treatment at Priory Hemel Hempstead
Hear from Alex, a patient who wrote a letter to the team to express his gratitude for the support they provided him whilst at Hemel Hempstead.
Hemel Hempstead provide the opportunity to go on holidays, and a group recently went to Brighton. This gave me something to work towards and it encouraged me to attend cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) sessions. They helped me to incorporate the skills into everyday life which helps me to continue to improve.
Being treated at Hemel Hempstead has been a great success. It was close to my home which meant eventually I could stay just at the weekends, which made a huge difference to me settling. I could go visit my brother and go to his flat for tea, then walk back in only 20 minutes.
We started doing movie night on Wednesdays which I really enjoyed. I was also able to start helping out around the ward, cleaning, doing dishes after meals and the more independence I showed, the more I was granted. I was able to start going for meals at the local pub at the weekends with staff members accompanying me.

I will be forever grateful to Hemel Hempstead and all the team. Priory turned out to be the best place to reset my mental health and give me a chance to live a life out of hospital. Please pass my good wishes to all the staff.
