Hillside resident fulfils dream to attend a Pride celebration in Blackpool
RA had planned to go to Blackpool Pride with her Mum prior to moving to Hillside. She was really excited to attend, and simply wanted to enjoy the atmosphere and sense of celebration.
With the support of her family and the Hillside team, she was able to attend across all three days. She was supported by the Hillside team across the weekend and RA’s Mum also attended with her each day.
One team member said: “It was amazing to see RA so happy and confident in the Pride setting. She really enjoyed the music, the colours and meeting new people. It was clear that she felt part of something special. She was smiling all weekend – it was a joy to support her.”
RA said: “It was a spectacular weekend, I enjoyed every minute and I will definitely be going back next year.”
The deputy manager at Hillside, explained that RA had developed a real community presence: “RA plans her weekly activities with support, attends the Bamber Bridge disco, where she meets up with a friend from a neighbouring service (Mather Fold House), and has built positive relationships with both staff and peers. RA is a bubbly and chatty individual who brings energy and enthusiasm to the service.”
