Treatment overview
*Lisa, 35, recently completed a course of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) treatment at Priory, under the care of Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Leon Rozewicz.
Summary
Before starting rTMS, Lisa’s scores on the PHQ-9 (a measure of depression) and GAD-7 (a measure of anxiety) were 23 and 16 respectively – indicating severe symptoms. After six weeks of rTMS, her scores had reduced to just 6 (PHQ-9) and 3 (GAD-7), showing a clinically significant response. She had reached subclinical anxiety and near subclinical depression, with no reported side effects.
*Lisa's story in her own words
While being treated by Dr Leon Rozewicz for ADHD, depression and generalised anxiety disorder, he suggested I try rTMS.
Throughout my teenage and adult life, I have tried various antidepressants and anxiety medications, but often experienced negative side effects and never felt any noticeable improvement in my mood. Dr Rozewicz empathised with my situation and suggested rTMS as an alternative.
The treatment has helped me immensely, for both anxiety and depression, with no side effects. I’ve found myself more interested in activities, with increased energy and a noticeable reduction in anxious spiralling. In short, it has been life changing.
The rTMS co-ordinator, Adam O’Hagan, was very accommodating. He is clearly very knowledgeable about the science and latest research, and was always happy to answer any questions – explaining everything in layman’s terms. This made the process far less intimidating.
I’ve already told a number of friends about the treatment, as I think it’s extremely impactful and hope more people become aware of it and can benefit too.
