Remote therapy changed my life
I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks and found support with Priory Wellbeing Centre Birmingham. The process was quick and efficient and they offered me a solution fast.
Firstly, the option for zoom sessions was a high incentive, as not having to go to a new location and meet in person was a big relief, for someone struggling with anxiety. This remote option opened up my options and provided a wider choice, than if I chose to look for a counsellor in my town.
My initial session was to see if my counsellor was a good fit for me, but I immediately liked her. There was a warmth about her that provided comfort during a difficult situation. She listened intently and clearly broke down information – her explanations were very easy to understand.
As we got chatting, I discovered my counsellor had dealt with a similar type of loss that I had dealt with. And while it wasn't exactly the same, it was much easier to talk to her and it felt like she truly understood where some of my underlying issues were coming from. This allowed her to help me even more.
"Worth her wait in gold..."
We completed a number of tasks throughout the weeks, and while a bit daunting, I realised I was not the only person to be experiencing my thoughts and feelings, and this was a huge comfort. I felt like I could trust my counsellor with anything and she listened without judgement.
She has assisted me in shifting my mind set into positive outcomes, opposed to the negative outcomes I would have firstly set on. There are many coping mechanisms she has shared with me that I will carry on into my day-to-day life. She really got me thinking and opened my mind to a different way of rationalising things. She didn’t spoon feed answers, she took the conversation and made it so I really had to put thought in.
I would recommend cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) to any of my friends and family – even encourage it. My counsellor was worth her weight in gold and has truly made a difference to my life. My anxiety has massively decreased and I've been able to enjoy this year with a lot less worry and panic than the previous couple of years. This is all thanks to my counsellor at Priory Wellbeing Centre Birmingham.
