About the Flourish service

Horizon House is a 18-bed residential addiction treatment service in Nottingham and forms part of Priory’s national network of addiction treatment homes.

The service is home to Flourish, our innovative therapy-led addiction programme, which provides tailored support for people experiencing a range of addictions within a welcoming and homely setting.

Designed as an alternative to more traditional hospital-based rehab, Flourish is delivered by qualified therapists within a non-medical environment. The programme is suited to people who do not require ongoing physical healthcare, but who would benefit from intensive therapeutic support, peer connection and practical coping strategies to help build lasting change away from the pressures of everyday life.

The programme is also a service suitable for neurodivergent and high functioning clients, with an adapted recovery model free from rigid group structures and sensory overload.

Funding and referrals

Horizon House provides residential addiction support to adults in a community-based setting. We develop person-centred care plans for each person we support, which carefully consider their unique needs and goals. Our dedicated team then deliver a bespoke care programme to help deliver the best possible outcomes.

  • We take referrals from various specialist health organisation's, voluntary and charity sectors, as well as direct from NHS/publicly funded organisations, including ICB’s, Trusts and Local Authorities
  • We support local initiatives and are part of wider partnerships supporting people with addictions, to reduce harm and improving wellness

The first step for individuals would be to reach out to their GP or by contacting local support group initiatives through community adverts. We can also support specific groups of individuals represented by organisation's.

If you are an organisation, please contact us or fill in our enquiry form, to discuss group needs, as we may be able to provide further cost efficiencies.

Supporting detox requirements

As part of Priory's free addiction assessment, we’ll help determine the most suitable treatment pathway for each person's individual needs. If a medically supported detox is required before starting Flourish at Horizon House, this can be arranged at a different location. Following detox, we can organise transport to Horizon House to help make the transition into treatment as smooth and supportive as possible.

We offer:

  • Evidence-based psychological support, measured through robust outcomes

  • A flexible approach to addiction treatment, helping clients to rebuild and reconnect with everyday life

  • High-quality addiction treatment at a more accessible price point

  • A supportive network and a leading care programme for family members

Residential addiction treatment in Nottingham

At Horizon House, treatment is personalised to each individual's needs and goals, whether that involves working towards abstinence or reducing harmful behaviours. The Flourish programme takes a whole-person approach, recognising that addiction is often connected to wider emotional, psychological and lifestyle factors rather than existing in isolation.

Through a structured residential programme and supportive therapeutic community, we’ll help build confidence, develop healthier coping strategies and prepare for life beyond treatment. Horizon House supports people experiencing a wide range of addictions, including alcohol and drugs, as well as behavioural addictions such as gambling, gaming, social media and internet use, shopping, exercise, pornography, sex and love addiction and work addiction.

Treatment includes:

Therapy-led support including psychoeducation, group therapy, exposure-based interventions and virtual reality (VR) therapy
Practical support focused on resilience, emotional wellbeing, life skills and healthy relationships

Meaningful family involvement, with strong communication between therapists and families throughout treatment, including a therapist-facilitated joint session with loved ones to encourage open communication and support recovery together.

For residents staying with us for 28 days or more, this is complemented by a dedicated 1-day programme for loved ones, alongside weekly family support groups to strengthen relationships, establish healthy boundaries and reinforce relapse prevention skills.

Horizon House offers a more affordable, non-medical alternative to traditional inpatient rehab, while still providing intensive therapeutic support in a safe and welcoming environment. Our experienced team works closely with each individual to create a tailored care plan that supports long-term progress, helping develop the tools and accountability needed to manage everyday challenges and reduce the risk of relapse after treatment.

Treatment begins with a minimum 14-day stay (Stage 1). If appropriate, individuals can then choose to continue into Stages 2 and 3, with the length of each stage tailored to each individual's needs and recovery goals. Many people complete Stage 1 only and still gain significant benefits from the programme.

Take the first step with a free addiction assessment

Start with a free, no-obligation addiction assessment. It’s a chance to talk openly with our expert team, explore your concerns, and decide if Flourish is the right support for you.

Ongoing support

Recovery continues long after treatment, which is why we offer free online aftercare for anyone who completes a residential stay of 14 days or more.

Our aftercare service is available for 12 months after treatment, and includes weekly Zoom sessions to stay connected, share experiences and continue building on the tools and strategies developed during treatment. These sessions provide a supportive and welcoming space to help maintain accountability, strengthen recovery and feel encouraged as through adjustment back to everyday life.

Discover Recovery 360

As well as aftercare, we also provide free access to our digital support tool, Recovery 360, when your programme is completed. It’s designed to help individuals stay supported and on track as they continue their recovery.

The programme begins with an initial 3-month plan, with the option to extend, providing a flexible way to maintain motivation, structure and accountability beyond residential treatment.

Recovery 360 combines a Bluetooth-enabled breathalyser with a simple tracking app, offering personalised support, real-time feedback and practical tools for everyday life. A companion app keeps your loved ones involved, while Priory specialists can monitor progress through a secure clinical dashboard and offer timely guidance when needed.

Treatment options

Therapy is at the centre of the Flourish programme at Horizon House. We use a range of evidence-based approaches designed to help individuals better understand addiction, develop healthier coping strategies and build the confidence and resilience needed for long-term change.

Because everyone’s experiences and challenges are different, treatment will be tailored to each person's individual needs. Alongside group therapy and one-to-one support, programmes may also include psychoeducation, creative therapies and practical wellbeing sessions to support all aspects of recovery. Therapies and sessions may include:

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Trauma-informed therapy
  • Psychoeducational groups
  • Creative writing
  • Understanding relationships
  • Self-care and wellbeing

As part of treatment, individual's may also take part in exposure-based therapy designed to help them safely prepare for situations that could trigger cravings, stress or relapse once leaving treatment.

Using immersive VR technology, our therapists can recreate realistic everyday environments within a safe and controlled setting. This might include social situations, stressful scenarios or other experiences linked to addiction. By practising coping techniques in these settings during treatment, individuals can begin to build confidence, strengthen resilience and feel more prepared to manage challenges in everyday life.

This innovative approach helps individuals apply the skills learned in therapy to real-world situations, supporting lasting recovery and reducing the risk of relapse after treatment.

At Priory, our experts use ground-breaking immersive VR technology to recreate real-life scenarios in a safe and controlled setting. From social environments to high-pressure situations, this approach allows individuals to build resilience, develop coping strategies and reduce sensitivity to potential triggers – all before encountering them in daily life.

By integrating true-to-life exposure into your programme, we help people gain confidence, lower the risk of relapse and feel better prepared for long-term recovery.

We also recognise that improving wellbeing plays a large part in facilitating a full and lasting recovery. As such, we provide access to a number of wellbeing activities, enabling our clients to focus on their mind, body and spirit. These include:

Community-based trips and activities
Relaxation techniques

At Horizon House, recovery is about more than addressing addiction alone. We also focus on supporting overall wellbeing, helping reconnect with activities and experiences that can positively support both mental and physical health.

Alongside therapy, we provide access to a range of wellbeing activities designed to help you relax, build confidence and feel more connected to the world around you. These may include:

  • Community-based trips and activities
  • Relaxation and wellbeing sessions

Where appropriate, people may also be able to bring pets during treatment. Having a familiar companion nearby can provide comfort, emotional support and a reassuring sense of routine during what can often feel like a difficult time.

All pets are subject to an individual risk assessment and can be welcomed at admission where this doesn’t negatively affect others using the service, such as in cases involving allergies or fear of animals.

Living and eating as a community

A key part of the programme is shared living and time spent eating together, helping to build routine, connection and confidence in everyday life. At Horizon House, we provide a food budget and support to shop, plan and cook meals with other people in the house. We also provide opportunities to take part in therapeutic cooking activities, helping to build and practise essential life skills in a supported way.

Our whole-person approach places you at the centre of your care, supporting every aspect of your wellbeing. We focus on helping you recover in a way that rebuilds your life, not just manages symptoms.
