Priory Hospital Altrincham provides expert treatment for a range of mental health conditions and addictions.

The hospital is comprised of three inpatient units, providing specialist care for adults with range of mental health challenges, young people with an eating disorder, as well as an adult addiction rehab and treatment programme.

Altrincham also provides established, evidence-based outpatient treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, stress, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and bipolar disorder. We also offer private autism assessments for adults.

Our services

We provide private outpatient mental health treatment for adults, as well as young people under the age of 18. Our outpatient eating disorder service consists of patients attending our site in Altrincham for weekly, face-to-face appointments, therapy sessions, or remotely via a media platform such as Zoom. We also offer appointments outside of working hours. These sessions can be flexible around your work and other commitments.

We are also able to offer diagnostic assessments for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism.

At Priory Hospital Altrincham, our addiction treatment experts understand that struggling with a substance or behavioural addiction can have a destructive impact on your health, wellbeing and ability to function, as well as your work performance and relationships with others. As such, we're committed to delivering comprehensive residential treatment for a range of addictions, including alcohol, drugs and other addictive behaviours.

To do that, we offer a 28-day residential addiction treatment programme, which puts your recovery first. It includes:

  • Free, no-obligation addiction assessment
  • 7 to 10-day medically assisted detoxification for drug and alcohol addictions, if this is needed
  • Individual 1:1 therapy and a structured group therapy programme
  • A family and couples programme
  • Access to both on and off-site 12-step support groups
  • Free aftercare for 12 months following treatment
  • Free family support for 12 months following treatment

Our flexible and patient-centred addiction treatment programme at Altrincham is led by world-renowned experts in their field. Our team have extensive experience in supporting people from many walks of life, providing clinically effective treatment to help you get back on track.

At Priory Hospital Altrincham, we understand that during the first 12 months following treatment, it's likely that you'll need additional support as you progress in your early stages of recovery. That’s why we offer free aftercare for 12 months, once you've completed our full 28-day addiction treatment programme. Our aftercare programme consists of twice-weekly support groups, continuous networking assistance, talks and advice for patients, as well as weekly family support groups. In addition, you'll finish the addiction treatment programme with a tailored continuing care plan and we're dedicated to supporting you in your ongoing transition from hospital back to your day-to-day life.

We can provide support for people struggling with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder (BED), and other specified feeding or eating disorders (OSFED), also known as eating disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS).

How does visiting work?

Visiting is allowed at all Priory hospitals, and this is something that your team of carers will put in place.

Visiting times can vary depending on your treatment plan, and whether you're undergoing our medically assisted detox programme. This is something staff will discuss with you prior to your visit.

From Monday to Friday, friends or family are welcome to visit the ward at certain times. When you're ready for someone to visit, you can confirm these times with your ward team.

On the weekends, therapy sessions and wellness activities are less frequent, which means that visiting times can be more flexible.

Children are allowed to visit, but we respectfully ask that they stay with an adult at all times. They can visit you in your private room, or there are options to book out therapy rooms outside of therapy hours. A member of staff will be able to assist you with those details when you arrive.

When are meal times?

At Priory Hospital Altrincham, there are set meal times.

These are:

  • Breakfast - 8am to 9am
  • Lunch - 12pm to 1pm
  • Dinner - 5pm to 6pm

All of your meals will be prepared for you by our team and you will receive a different menu to choose from each day.

We can cater for any dietary requirements or allergies; just tell a member of staff when you arrive and we can sort out everything else for you.

Are there any NHS services available at Priory Hospital Altrincham?

We offer inpatient child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) eating disorder and adult acute mental health treatment at Altrincham, both in partnership with the NHS.

NHS services become available when someone has a referral from their GP, a clinical commissioner or a hospital they may have had treatment from before.

What if I'm in crisis?

Priory’s customer service team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure that people in crisis can be signposted to the best possible support, as quickly as possible. For immediate crisis support, they may direct you to your local NHS facilities. 

The specialist teams at our residential facilities can help to stabilise those in need of immediate assistance, including providing access to medically assisted detoxification for drug and alcohol addictions, where required.
