Page last updated:

Priory Hospital Burgess Hill has been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following its latest inspection.

Inspectors rated the hospital ‘Good’ across all five assessment areas: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led, with patients telling inspectors that staff were responsive, kind and caring, and knew how to support them when they felt stressed. Patients also said they felt involved in their care, understood their medication and care plans, and felt able to raise any concerns with staff and leaders.

Located near Hassocks in West Sussex, Priory Hospital Burgess Hill provides specialist inpatient mental healthcare for adult men. The hospital offers acute mental health services and a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), delivering assessment and treatment for people with complex mental health needs.

Inspectors found the hospital to be safe, clean, well equipped and well maintained, with staff assessing and managing risks effectively and working collaboratively to support patient care.

The report also recognised the opportunities available to patients to build independence and develop new skills, with patients telling inspectors they valued access to a range of activities and community opportunities, including volunteering, work placements and educational programmes that support recovery and future independence.

Paul O’Connor, Hospital Director, said: “This is a positive report for Priory Hospital Burgess Hill and reflects the dedication, professionalism and compassion shown by colleagues every day. It is particularly encouraging to see such positive feedback from patients about the care and support they receive, and recognition of the opportunities available to help people build confidence, independence and progress in their recovery journey.”
