Priory expands Flourish addiction recovery model with new Leicestershire service

  • Priory opens third therapy-led residential Flourish service as demand for addiction treatment grows
  • Designed to bridge the gap between community support and traditional inpatient rehabilitation
  • Described as a “game changer” for people seeking structured, non-hospital addiction support

Priory, the UK’s largest independent provider of mental health, addiction and working-age adult social care services, has expanded its innovative Flourish addiction recovery programme with the opening of Beacon House in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

The new 17-bed residential service is the third location to offer Flourish – Priory’s therapy-led addiction recovery programme, designed for people who need structured residential support but do not require hospital-based treatment.

Flourish has been developed to address a recognised gap in addiction treatment, providing structured therapeutic support for people who need more than outpatient or community-based services but who may not need, or wish to access, traditional inpatient rehabilitation.

The model aligns with the growing emphasis across health and care on prevention, earlier intervention and personalised support, with Beacon House also opening at a time of growing demand for addiction treatment.

Latest National Drug Treatment Monitoring System figures show a record 147,713 adults received treatment for alcohol misuse in England during 2024/25 – the highest number since records began in 2009.

At the same time, requests for alcohol addiction treatment across Priory services have increased by 39% since 2020, while drug-related deaths in the East Midlands have more than doubled over the past decade.

Beacon House supports people experiencing alcohol and drug dependency, alongside behavioural addictions including gambling, gaming, pornography, social media, sex and compulsive exercise.

The programme has also been designed to provide a welcoming therapeutic environment for people who may find more traditional inpatient settings challenging, including neurodivergent individuals.

Richard Sparkes, Service Manager at Beacon House, said: “Flourish truly is a game changer in addiction services. As a community-based, structured alternative to hospital treatment, it provides the time, space and therapeutic support people need to build lasting recovery.

“As part of the recovery journey, clients have access to innovative interventions, including immersive virtual reality exposure therapy, which recreates real-life scenarios in a safe and controlled environment.

“From social settings to high-pressure situations, this allows people to build resilience, develop coping strategies and reduce their sensitivity to potential triggers before encountering them in everyday life.”

Steve Clarke, Managing Director for Priory’s Flourish services, said: “We know addiction services can often feel fragmented, with many people believing their only options are community support or traditional inpatient rehabilitation.

“There is often a ‘missing middle’ in addiction treatment, where people need more support than community services alone can provide but may not need traditional inpatient care.

“Flourish was developed to help bridge that gap, providing structured, therapy-led support in a welcoming residential environment.

“Clients are also encouraged to remain in contact with their loved ones, there are opportunities for them to be actively involved in therapy and pets can be accommodated for the duration of a person’s stay with us, which we know can be vital to a recovery.”

He added: “As the health and care system increasingly focuses on prevention, earlier intervention and supporting people closer to home wherever possible, innovative models like Flourish have an important role to play alongside existing services.

“We’re delighted to bring Beacon House to the East Midlands, giving more people access to specialist addiction support and another pathway towards lasting recovery.”

Priory offers a free addiction assessment, providing an opportunity to speak confidentially with an experienced clinician, explore treatment options and determine the most appropriate support.

Beacon House offers flexible lengths of stay tailored to individual needs, with programmes starting from 14 days, where clinically appropriate. Prices start from £350 a night, with longer stays also available.
