Priory Hospital Malvern has opened for patients this week, after an extensive refurbishment project to rejuvenate the site.

Located at the foot of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, the hospital provides a 25 bed rehabilitation and recovery service for men with mental illnesses and complex needs.

Patients will have access to an extensive range of activities at the hospital, including an art room, a supervised kitchen, and a computer room so they can keep in touch with family and friends. There will also be opportunities to take part in vocational and environmental projects to enhance the rehabilitation process.

Taking advantage of its spectacular location, the hospital provides a supportive environment to enhance patients’ recovery experience. The grounds contain an apple and pear orchard, as well as gardens and an allotment. Patients will have the chance to join a ‘Green Fingers Group’, where they can plan how the allotment is used, then grow and cook the produce. The resident chickens and ducks will be providing free-range eggs.

Hospital Director Philip Petts said; “Malvern is an ideal place to recover from mental illness in a therapeutic setting, the thorough refurbishment of the building looks outstanding and the facilities at site are exceptional. I have a new staffing team with excellent clinical skills and experience, who are looking forward to supporting patients on their pathway to recovery”.
