Date: 19th December 2024
Priory Levitt Mill and Barn care homes for autistic adults and people with learning disabilities - where staff "go above and beyond" - have been awarded a 'good' rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection.
The CQC report highlighted several areas of excellence at Priory Levitt Mill and Barn, in Maltby, noting that residents feel safe and happy.
One resident commented, "I feel safe and happy here," while a relative praised the service, saying, "the staff are very caring and attentive. They go above and beyond to ensure the residents are happy and well-cared for". Another relative said: "I have no complaints whatsoever, [my family member] has thrived."
The service was awarded a 'good' rating in all five key assessment areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led. The report highlighted that the service aims to support people to live as independently as possible by developing their daily living and social skills in a safe and homely environment.
Rebekah Cresswell, Priory chief executive officer, said: "Our colleagues at Priory Levitt Mill and Barn are truly exceptional. Their commitment to supporting residents to live their life to the fullest is evident in the positive feedback from the CQC. This rating is a testament to their hard work and dedication."
The report commended the variety of activities and hobbies available to residents, both within the home and in the community. These include access to local attractions such as Roche Abbey and the surrounding countryside, which residents can explore through walks and outings. The homes also feature a paddock where local people keep their horses, providing residents with opportunities to engage with animals and enjoy outdoor activities.
The CQC's assessment also noted the strong focus on outcomes for residents, aligning with the principles of 'Right support, right care, right culture.'
The report stated that "people and staff spoke positively about the management team, who promoted a positive, caring culture", with Priory praised for operating clear governance systems and processes which supported the safe delivery of care and helped drive improvement.
Priory Levitt Mill and Barn is located on the outskirts of Maltby, near Rotherham, in a woodland setting. The service provides residential support for up to 11 people, all of whom are autistic adults or adults with learning disabilities.
