A new Priory residential home - providing specialist support for autistic people and people with learning disabilities or a mental health diagnosis - has been officially opened in Pontypridd.

Priory is the UK’s largest independent provider of mental health and adult social care services.

Chief executive Rebekah Cresswell unveiled the new service, Priory Daffodil House, which is made up of nine self-contained homes, with round-the-clock on-site support for people between the age of 17 and 65.

Christine Keyse, Priory adult care managing director for South West and Wales, said: “Everybody who lives at Daffodil House has their own person-centred care plan, which is co-produced with input from the individual, their family members and professionals involved in their care – ensuring everyone in our care is able to make their own choices about the support they receive.

“Meanwhile, through our network of healthcare, residential and supported living facilities, we provide unique care pathways which enable the people we support to progress towards greater independence, helping to ensure they live a fulfilling and active life in the community.”

Everyone living at the home will be helped to develop core life skills including cooking, cleaning and self-care, and to live as independently as possible within a community setting.

Support for residents will be delivered by a team specialising in positive behaviour support for people with complex needs.

Bungalows include secure gardens, a breakout room, wet room, dining room and kitchen to promote independence, while bedrooms can be personalised to individual tastes. One bungalow has widened doors which can support individuals who are wheelchair users.
