LaingBuisson Awards 2024: Priory recognised for creating pathways from hospitals to adult social care for mental health patients

Date: 19th September 2024

Priory has been shortlisted for two prestigious national awards which recognise its efforts to support mental health patients with their transitions from hospital into the community.

The organisation is in the running for both ‘Hospital Group of the Year’ and ‘Excellence in Specialist Care’ at the LaingBuisson Awards 2024, which will take place in London in November.

The awards celebrate excellence from independent health and social care service providers and Priory has been recognised for developing successful pathways which integrate health, social and community care through its UK-wide network of 280 hospitals and residential facilities.

Priory is the UK’s largest independent provider of mental health and adult social care services.

With a focus on supporting people to move to the least restrictive environment and enabling patients to achieve greater independence, Priory supported 50 people to move out of hospital into adult social care services over the past year – with 48 able to move into their own tenancies or a supported living environment.

Priory’s adult social care services consist of 1,927 specialist residential care beds for individuals with a variety of needs, including autistic people, people with a learning disability, people with long-term mental health issues, acquired brain injuries or a physical disability.

Rebekah Cresswell, chief executive of Priory, said: “Our purpose at Priory is ‘Live Your Life’, which means supporting as many people as we can to live their lives to the full and reach their goals - for some this means rehabilitation and returning to a home and family, and for others living in the community with greater independence for the first time.

“Across both healthcare and adult social care, services have been able to provide people with greater stability by ensuring they receive the right support at the right time - helping to address the root cause of many issues and social determinants, not just the symptoms, which has transformed wellbeing and outcomes for the many people we care for.

“This recognition is testament to the efforts of so many colleagues who work tirelessly every day to provide the best possible care to our patients and residents across the UK. It is really important to reflect on the difference our colleagues make to the lives of so many people and it is very rewarding for us all when that is acknowledged independently.”
