Priory has a nationwide network of acute services for the NHS, offering 24-hour assistance in times of emergencies, to support people whenever needed. Our hospitals offer comfortable and caring environments for a wide range of patients.

Priory’s acute services aim to allow more people to be treated closer to home and we support the NHS to repatriate out-of-area patients back to local areas.

Service overview

  • Priory works closely with provider trusts and local systems to achieve minimum lengths of stay
  • We provide an extension to NHS acute services during times of fluctuating demand
  • We work collaboratively with discharge teams to ensure a smooth transition back into community services, or to a person's home where possible
  • We provide opportunities for patients to attend ward rounds, enabling people to discuss their care with the multidisciplinary team
  • We have the capability across our network to support a full care pathway, enabling patients to step up into psychiatric intensive care units (PICUs) or secure services, or step down into rehabilitation services, where community services or a return home is not appropriate

Latest bed availability

We are ready to take emergency placements from the NHS 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for adult acute mental health, PICU, CAMHS and adult eating disorders.

Referrals and admissions

Priory supports positive progression towards recovery for the following patients:

  • People with a range of mental health conditions
  • People showing risk of violence and aggression, secondary to mental health conditions
  • People at risk of suicide
  • Informal patients or those detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA)

Same-day admission can be facilitated and we can assist in transferring the patient if needed. We can accept referrals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Urgent or out-of-hours appointments and admissions can be arranged immediately by telephoning our dedicated service centre.

Please note, unfortunately we are unable to take self-referrals for NHS services. For treatment to be funded through the NHS, this will need to be discussed with a GP or a care co-ordinator.
