All patients receive a personalised treatment programme to offer the best chance of personal development and recovery.
Priory offers support for a wide variety of patients in Wales, across seven hospitals and six enhanced community homes. This includes:
- Medium and low secure facilities
- Locked facilities
- Rehabilitation and recovery services
- A unit specialising in neurorehabilitation, Huntington’s disease and acquired brain injury (ABI)
Medium secure units (MSUs)
- This facility provides beds for male and female patients, and includes a male personality disorder service
- The full care pathway offered allows patients to move through to the next stage of their treatment in a timely manner
- Here, there is a focus on physical healthcare and a GP service is available 3 days a week, supported by a physical health team

Low secure services (LSUs)
- This facility provides beds for male patients, and includes a male learning difficulty service and for those over the age of 50
- The full care pathway offered allows patients to move through to the next stage of their treatment in a timely manner
- Here there is a focus on physical healthcare and a GP service is available three days a week, supported by a physical health team
- This is a low secure hospital which delivers a high-quality biopsychosocial model of care for male and female patients with complex mental disorders including personality disorder
- We offer a highly structured discharge pathway back to the community
- This is a low secure service for males with enduring mental health and personality disorders
- We expect continued involvement and engagement with local services at every stage of the patient’s pathway. This is particularly important in relation to risk reduction, rehabilitation, social integration and discharge planning
- Our 12-week care planning process supports patients to prioritise their goals and formulate treatment plans to meet their individual needs and recovery
Rehabilitation and recovery
- Woodlands Ward at this hospital is a 4 bedded male open rehabilitation service, providing a full care pathway from secure to open services
- This service helps to shorten length of stay in an LSU, providing an open setting whilst having the support of a large number of secure services on the same site
- The service also provides additional rehabilitation and support for those who may find the step from LSU to community too challenging, especially after having been in secure services for several years
Priory Hospital Church Village
- This is a service for female patients with learning disabilities and a mental health diagnosis
- Patients can attend various activities in the local community as well as educational or work programmes
- A care pathway is accessible, with an onsite bungalow to help prepare patients for return to the community
Enhanced community homes
- This facility provides an experienced, well trained and stable staff team, who use an individualised approach in maintaining quality of life for our female patients
- It is located in a quiet residential area, only 5 minutes’ walk from the small town of Abergavenny, allowing for access to local amenities
- This is a service for both male and female patients, which provides a full MDT and a stable, experienced staff team committed to delivering high standards of care with a person-centred approach to support individuals to achieve goals and gain independence
- Offers an annexe allowing individuals to gain as much independence as possible whilst still being able to access support when required
- Patients are supported by an effective MDT, experienced in rehabilitation, recovery and caring for patients with complex needs
- With a wide range of amenities nearby, the home is ideally located for safe, structured and gradual reintegration into the local community
- This facility is led by a full MDT with a stable and experienced team who support patients through difficult situations and give opportunities to develop problem solving skills, helping them obtain further independence and social inclusion, within the community setting
- Patients enjoy a diverse timetable of activities of their own choice
- Located in a quiet residential area of Cardiff with a wide range of amenities nearby, the home is ideally located for safe, structured and gradual reintegration into the local community
- It is two semi-detached properties, next door to each other, enabling more flexibility in the patient group
- This facility specialises in providing a care pathway out of secure services, for people with a learning disability, who have a proven track record of successfully moving people into less supported settings in the community
- It is led by an MDT, experienced in rehabilitation, recovery and caring for people with complex needs. Patient care is reviewed every 6 weeks in MDT meetings and 6 monthly in care programme approach reviews
Neuro-rehabilitation
- This service provides person-centred neuro-rehabilitation programmes that are bespoke to the severity and complexity of a person’s particular neuro-disability
- Conditions include traumatic brain injury (TBI), acquired brain injury (ABI) or neuro-degenerative conditions such as motor neurone disease, Huntington’s disease, or multiple sclerosis
- It recognises families as central to the wellbeing of the patient and they are encouraged to play a key role in goal setting and care planning
