Please note Abbey House will be closing on 31st December 2019, and is therefore not accepting any new referrals.
Abbey House provides a pro-active, specialist psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery service for males aged 18 years or older with enduring mental illness and/or personality disorder.
We aim to provide our patients with the skills that they need to lead a happy and fulfilling life back in the community. We support those requiring short periods of care prior to moving out of acute services, as well as those stepping down from secure treatment.
The unit has an inclusive, multidisciplinary approach with a positive attitude to risk management. Abbey House also runs a 12-week rotational therapeutic programme, to help patients to develop:
- Coping strategies
- Resilience and community skills
- Recovery potential
- Independence skills
Patients are also able to attend drop-in sessions with an educational tutor. Our tutor identifies patients' educational needs and interests, and a range of formal and informal learning is available.
Our real work opportunities (RWOs) help patients to develop pre-employment process skills including CV workshops, application support, interviews with formalised feedback, and training that is relevant to the role such as health and safety or manual handling.
Focus on Safety
Our absolute priority is to make sure we operate safe and effective services 24/7 and that all staff understand what is required of them to make that happen. Click here to read more.
We believe that the environment in which an individual is treated is just as important as the treatment itself. Our homely setting provides a range of facilities that include:
- En-suite bedrooms
- Semi-independent living accommodation in 5 modern flats
- A communal garden
- An education centre
- Arts room
- Practice kitchens
- Bicycle shed
- Community facilities including a gym, library and horse riding facilities
Fresh produce is farmed at Abbey House garden and is used throughout the summer for cooking, which we encourage as a way to improve life skills.
