East Midlands Recovery College

Priory Hospital East Midlands offers low secure, psychiatric intensive care, and rehabilitation and recovery services for females aged 18 years or older with a primary condition of mental illness and personality disorder. We work with females who are stepping down from secure services, or stepping up from community or other inpatient rehabilitation care.

Priory Hospital East Midlands is comprised of:

  • Harris Ward – a low secure continuing care ward for females
  • Littlemore Ward – female psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU)
  • Barton Ward – a community facing inpatient rehabilitation ward for females with complex mental illness and personality disorder

Our approach

Patients are offered a wide range of vocational and educational opportunities at this hospital and a varied timetable which includes their choice of therapeutic and meaningful activities to suit individual needs and interests.

The occupational therapy programmes focus on promoting independence in the community and the development of day-to-day living skills.

  • Budgeting
  • Creative writing
  • Breakfast club
  • Social club
  • Hobbies
  • Occupational therapy drop-in groups for patients who may wish to discuss any issues with their allocated occupational therapist

  • Healthy living
  • Vocational knitting

East Midlands Recovery College

At Priory Hospital East Midlands, our Recovery College is based on Harris Ward – a low secure continuing care ward for adult females. The ward has a focus on community skills as well as continuing and maintaining recovery through meaningful activity. There is an excellent and experienced multidisciplinary team of professionals, with disciplines including psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy and nursing.

The ward has access to a range of facilities, including:

  • Fully equipped gym
  • Library with computer access
  • Therapy room
  • Multi-faith room
  • Outdoor garden area

Patients regularly access the community with the therapy team for community skills sessions. Patients are also supported to access leave on an individually assessed and care-planned basis.

East Midlands’ Recovery College provides further opportunities for patients to improve their wellbeing through education and skills development workshops.
